Context

What happened

On June 24, 2026, two earthquakes struck Yaracuy state in northern Venezuela within 39 seconds of each other — a 7.2 magnitude followed by a 7.5. The epicenter was near San Felipe, roughly 200 kilometers from Caracas. The tremors were felt across much of the country and caused building collapses in several cities including the capital. Aftershocks continued in the hours that followed. The death toll remains unconfirmed.
